John Patrick Elliott wins Stage Debut Award

John Patrick Elliott has won The Stage Debut Award for Best Composer, Lyricist or Book Writer for his work on Cruise.

Cruise, written by and starring Jack Holden, was initially streamed online in April 2021 before a live production at the Duchess Theatre, the first play to open the theatre post-pandemic. In 2022 it returned to the West End for a run at the Apollo Theatre.

Cruise is the true story of what should have been Michael Spencer’s last night on Earth. Centered around one night in '80s Soho, it is a major celebration of queer culture; a kaleidoscopic musical and spoken word tribute to the veterans of the AIDs crisis; an urgent piece of theatre, with an irresistible 80s soundtrack, which will make you laugh, make you cry, and which inspires us all to live every day as if it’s our last.

Prema Mehta designed the Lighting at the Apollo and Max Pappenheim designed the Sound with John.

Congratulations John!
