Vasilii Sigarev was born in 1977 in the Verhnj (Highest) Salda region of the Urals where he still lives and works. Russian premieres include:
His first play PLASTICINE, was invited to the new writing festival in Lyubimovka in June 2000 and then staged in Moscow in 2001 at the Playwright and Director Centre;
His second play BLACK MILK was produced at the Gogol Theatre in 2002 and then at the Theatre U Nikitiskih Vorot;
In 2004 the Sphera Theatre in Moscow produced LIE DETECTOR and PHANTOM PAINS (followed by a season at the Moscow Arts Theatre in 2005);
In 2006 the Moscow Arts Theatre went on to produce PYSHKA and RAMT theatre group in Moscow produced GOUPIOCHKA;
As well as over 100 productions in Russia, his plays have been translated and performed around the world. Judy Daish Associates Ltd represents his work in translation, outside of Russia.
The Royal Court Theatre has premiered a number of Vassily’s plays in English with great critical success and Vassilii has won a number of awards in London, including the Evening Standard Charles Wintour Award for most promising playwright. These translations by Sasha Dugdale are published by Nick Hern Books.
English-language productions include PLASTICINE (Royal Court Theatre, 2002); BLACK MILK (Royal Court Theatre, 2003) then Belfast, Chicago, Sydney, Washington and New York; LADYBIRD (Royal Court Theatre, 2004) then Los Angeles and Sydney.

He has recently completed his first film, VOLCHOK (aka SPINNING TOP or WOLFY) in Russia.
