With a career as an internationally acclaimed image-maker spanning over three decades, Elaine Constantine is renowned for the authenticity and energy that infuses her work.

Having established herself as one of the pre-eminent fashion photographers of the 90s, working for titles including The Face, as well as US, French and Italian Vogue, Elaine has applied the same ability for capturing the vibrancy of youth in her role as a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker and screenwriter.

Elaine’s unique, globally recognised style has seen her celebrated through numerous awards and gallery shows. She is a recipient of the coveted Royal Photographic Society’s Terence Donovan Achievement Award (2005) and her work has been exhibited at Tate Britain, The Photographers’ Gallery and the V&A in London, as well as venues across Paris, Rome, Amsterdam and Moscow. A series of her works are held in the photography section of the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A.

Her debut feature film, Northern Soul, is an example of her vision and tenacity – setting up her own production company, Stubborn Heart, and teaching herself scriptwriting in order to realise her goal without compromising on her high visual and storytelling standards. The film was released in 2014 by Universal and, despite limited distribution, made the UK box office top ten.

It also earned her nominations for BAFTA (Outstanding Debut for a Writer, Director or Producer), as well as for the London Critic Circle’s British Breakthrough Filmmaker Award, and won her the NME’s Best Film of 2014 (made all the more pleasing since it was voted for by the public).

Elaine has also shot and directed campaigns for global brands including Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Diesel, Dior, Gucci, Longchamp, Nike, and Vivienne Westwood.
