2012 British Comedy Awards Nominees are Announced

The nominees for the 2012 British Comedy Awards have been announced.

In a Comedy Awards first, Olivia Colman is nominated twice in the same category, Best TV Comedy Actress, for her performances as Alex Smallbone in Rev and Sally in Twenty Twelve. Both of those shows go head to head in the Best Sitcom category. Twenty Twelve also features Joel Fry as series regular Karl.

Also up for Best Sitcom is the latest series of The Thick of It, which stars Peter Capaldi. Peter’s performance as Malcolm Tucker nets him a nomination for Best TV Comedy Actor - an award he previously won for the same role in 2010 - while the series also features Olivia Poulet in the role of Emma.

Rounding off the Best Sitcom nominations is Hunderby which features series regulars Ben Bishop as Tom and Daniel Lawrence Taylor as Jeff. Barunka O'Shaughnessy was script editor on the show.

Hunderby also finds itself among the nominees for Best New Comedy Programme, alongside Moone Boy, co-written by Nick Vincent Murphy.

Horrible Histories, featuring Jim Howick as one of its core cast members, once again makes the shortlist for Best Sketch Show following a surprise win in 2010 - making it the first children’s show ever to win the award - and a second win in the same category last year.

And finally, Jack Whitehall appears on the list for the People's Choice Award for King or Queen of Comedy in 2012. Details of how to vote can be found here.

The winners will be announced on 12 December at a ceremony that will be broadcast live on Channel 4.
