WHITE GOD released today in UK

Kornél Mundruczó's stunning allegorical tale of man’s abuse of superiority and privilege, WHITE GOD, goes on theatrical release in the UK today.

Winner of the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes 2014, this evocative and often acidly funny Hungarian thriller follows young Lili on a determined mission to retrieve her pet dog, Hagen, who her father casts out after a new law is passed favouring pedigree breeds. With legions of mongrel dogs finding themselves abandoned, an explosion of savage retribution against their human oppressors soon follows, and one girl's search for her dog becomes the last chance to find peace.

The Guardian ****

This is an intriguingly deadpan, almost unclassifiable satire of power relations, a subversive reverie about the prosperous classes in any city and their fear of what lies beneath.

The Independent ****

It's a tremendous film, an epic tale about an abandoned dog that has a grittiness, surrealistic imagination and violence you'll never find in any Disney movie.

Empire ****

Superbly acted allegorical drama with a climax that is not only breathtakingly exciting but flawlessly handled.

Variety

The words “release the hounds” take on vibrant new meaning in WHITE GOD, a thrillingly strange update of the “Lassie Come Home” formula in which one lost mutt’s incredible journey to sanctuary evolves into a full-scale man-vs.-beast revolution.
