BBC greenlights MCMAFIA by James Watkins and Hossein Amini

Misha Glenny’s bestselling book, MCMAFIA, about the world of international organised crime is forming the basis for an upcoming drama 'event' series for BBC1. Created and written by Hossein Amini (DRIVE) and UA client James Watkins (EDEN LAKE, THE WOMAN IN BLACK), MCMAFIA will tell the story of a “global gang war” through the eyes of a Russian family living in London.

The project is being produced by London-based Cuba Pictures, known for their recent adaptation Suzanne Collins’ JONATHAN STRAGE AND MR NORRELL. It is thought that the series will ultimately comprise 6 episodes with a budget set in the region of £2M per episode.

Casting is still to be confirmed.
