Born in a village in Afghanistan's central highland of Hazarajat in 1987, Roh Yakobi was forced to flee his home village after a day of captivity and torture by the Taliban, aged 12, in 1999. Fleeing to Pakistan and then to Iran, where he worked as a child labourer at factories and construction sites, before traveling back to Pakistan. He arrived in Britain on November 2nd 2004 and has since read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the Open University and written extensively on democracy, human rights and terrorism, including several articles in his capacity as Associate Fellow at the Human Security Centre. Roh is fluent in English, Persian and Pashtu.
