Stephen J. Johnson

Stephen J. Johnson is an Academy Nicholl Finalist Screenwriter, Director and Producer hailing from a background in photography, graphics and commercials. He was signed to United Agents on the basis of his first screenplay, Fire Within.

As a director he was personally mentored by Nicolas Roeg. His short films Hunger and Mapmaker gained critical success in major UK festivals. He honed his drama experience at the NFTS and was tutored by Brian Gilbert before moving into feature films.

As a producer he has worked alongside some of the biggest directors in the world from Spike Jonze, Harmony Korine to Craig Gillespie and Rupert Sanders. Stephen has extensive experience producing large scale, multi-award-winning commercials for high-end brands Apple, Amazon, Google and the like, all around the globe.

Growing up in Wales to a working class background, Stephen writes prestige dramas proudly giving a voice to those on the fringes of society trying to find their way in the world. He creates original stories exploring the power of the human spirit and conveys them in a unique and cinematic way.

Recently, Stephen wrote the Academy Nicholl Finalist script, The Migrant, which has garnered industry attention, and also has numerous features and TV Shows in development making him a distinctive talent to watch for the future.
