Affectionately known as the First Lady of the Paranormal, Yvette was just 17 when she was hired as a presenter of Blue Peter in 1987 after playing the lead in Seaview, a children’s BBC drama. She was then, and still remains, the youngest ever presenter of the perennial favourite children’s show. She was also voted the most popular woman on television, beating Cilla Black, Victoria Wood and Kylie Minogue.
Yvette became a prolific presenter and TV celebrity and it was while she was presenting City Hospital that she met Karl Beattie, who was to become her husband and with whom she created Antix Production to make Most Haunted.
Alongside the phenomenal success of Most Haunted, Yvette has made countless appearances on popular television shows – everything from Saturday Night Takeaway to Celebrity Mastermind and from Loose Women to The Paul O’Grady Show – and was voted “Multichannel Personality of the Year” by the Variety Club. As well as Most Haunted and Most Haunted Live, Yvette has produced (with Karl) Ghosthunting With… for ITV2 and appeared in the first episode of Celebrity Ghost Stories UK.
Yvette is also an accomplished writer and children’s novelist. She co-wrote two paranormal books – Ghost Hunters: A Guide To Investigating The Paranormal (2006) and In Search Of The Supernatural (2008) – and published her first novel, Archie the Ghost Hunter, in 2019. 2021 saw the publication of The House In The Woods, the first in The Ghost Hunter Chronicles – her new series of books. A second – The Ripper of Whitechapel – followed in 2022. Both were published to great acclaim.
Her memoir Scream Queens was published in spring 2024.
She has two children and lives with her husband Karl in Cheshire.
