WhatsOnStage Award shortlist announced

The nominations for the 16th annual WhatsOnStage awards have been announced, with UA clients receiving multiple nominations. 

In the category for Best Actor in a Play, James McAvoy is nominated for his role inThe Ruling Class at the Trafalgar Studios. Alex Hassell is also nominated for his performance of Henry V for the RSC.

Alex also recently starred as 'Biff' in Death of a Salesman for the RSC which is nominated for Best Play Revival. Also nominated in this category are The Ruling Class with James McAvoy and Elliot Levey along with Oresteia which played at the Almeida and Trafalgar Studios with Angus Wright as Agamemnon.

The Importance of Being Earnest is also nominated for Best Revival which starred Imogen Doel, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as 'Cecily'.

Nominated for Best New Play are People, Places and Things at the National Theatre which featured Kevin McMonagleOppenheimer by Tom Morton-Smith and Hangmen at The Royal Court, with Johnny Flynn who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for this portrayal of 'Mooney'.

Mack and Mabel which played at the the Chichester Festival Theatre and UK Tour has received several nominations including Best Musical Revival and Best Regional Production. Jonathan O'Boyle was associate director and it starred Rebecca LaChance as 'Mabel' with Gunnar Cauthery as Frank Wyham. 

Also nominated for Best Musical Revival is High Society directed by Maria Friedman, which also picks up a nomination for Nathan M. Wright for Best Choregraphy.

In the category for Best Direction, Jonathan Kent is nominated for Gypsy, which also had Lloyd Wood as associate director.

Sam MacKay receives a nomination for his portryal of 'Usnavi' in the UK premier of In The Heights  at the Southwark Playhouse, which has recently transferred to the Kings Cross Theatre.
