Press for CRUISE:
“The Little Unsaid’s John Elliott plays an electronic score that pulses softly throughout, beautifully building each scene with angelic, breathy synths as we go from phone line to nightclub to funeral and back.” - ★ ★ ★ ★ The Guardian
“John Elliott's music is nothing short of extraordinary and does so much to set atmosphere and add high impact.” - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Broadway World
“Elliott underscores scenes with his brilliantly composed live synth and guitar score... Holden and Elliott are working in a transcendent tandem. It is a heart-stopping moment of modern musical theatre.” - Musical Theatre Review
“Entrancing…deeply atmospheric…songwriting of a real rich quality” - Clash
Press for KENREX:
“Holden is helped in this ambitious endeavour by an audacious and atmospheric live soundtrack that is composed and performed by John Patrick Elliott. Imagine, if you will, a musical score created by the ghost of Johnny Cash in collaboration with the celebrated duo of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, and you will have something approximating Elliott’s remarkable combination of country and western with dystopian post-punk rock music.” ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (Mark Brown, Telegraph)
“Holden’s performance is only one of the highlights of Stambollouian’s excellent production. Most apparent is John Patrick Elliott’s live score, its loops and echoes bubbling up into acoustic alt-country songs, more hard-edged than romantic.” ★ ★ ★ ★ (Mark Fisher, The Guardian)
“This is Holden’s second such show; London audiences may have caught his multi-roling turn in Cruise, which played in the West End in 2021. Like that production, this one benefits from live onstage music by John Patrick Elliott, who here amplifies our sense of time – 1981 – and place – a sleepy backwater of Missouri – with toe-tapping country tunes, wistful folk rock and a pulse-raising soundtrack.” ★ ★ ★ ★ (Holly Williams, The Stage)
