2016 Olivier Nominations Announced
The nominations have been announced for the 2016 Olivier Awards.
Jonathan Kent is nominated for Best Director for Gypsy (Savoy Theatre), which also received a nomination for Best Musical Revival. George Fenton composed Mrs Henderson Presents (Noel Coward Theatre), nominated for Mastercard Best New Musical, and Peter Pan Goes Wrong (Apollo Theatre), co-created by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, is nominated for Best New Comedy and for the Magic Radio Audience Award.
George Dennis is nominated for Best Sound Design for The Homecoming (Trafalgar Studios 1) and Neil Austin received a nomination for the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design for The Winter’s Tale (Garrick Theatre).
David Haig received a nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for Guys and Dolls (Savoy Theatre).
Nell Gwynn (Apollo Theatre), which was directed by Christopher Luscombe and featured Jay Taylor, is nominated for Best New Comedy. Hangmen (Jerwood Theatre Downstairs at the Royal Court & Wyndham's Theatre), nominated for Virgin Atlantic Best New Play, featured Johnny Flynn. In the Best Revival category, The Winter’s Tale featured Tom Bateman and Jessie Buckley and Hamlet (Barbican) featured Amaka Okafor. In The Heights, featuring Sam MacKay, is nominated for MasterCard Best New Musical.
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical (Apollo Theatre), which had Lighting Design by Tim Mascall, is nominated for Best Entertainment and Family, as is Alice’s Adventures Underground (The Vaults), lit by Mike Gunning, The Lorax (Old Vic) which featured Simon Paisley Day and Emily Houghton and I Want My Hat Back (National Theatre, Temporary Theatre) which featured Steven Webb.
