Books
Based in Los Angeles, British-born Alexander Stuart is a novelist and screenwriter, whose books have been translated into eight languages and published in the US, Britain, Europe, Israel and around the world.
His most controversial novel, The War Zone, about a family torn apart by incest, was turned into a searingly emotional film by Oscar nominated actor/director, Tim Roth. Stuart's non-fiction account of the eight years he spent living in Miami, Life On Mars, formed the basis for his Channel 4 television documentary, The End Of America.
Stuart's screenplays include Head Shots for Paramount, with Jodie Foster attached; Bitten for Warner Bros, with Angelina Jolie attached; Under The Skin for Film4/Industry Entertainment, with director Jonathan Glazer attached; and an adaptation of Bill Buford's book, Among The Thugs, with Kiefer Sutherland attached to direct and star.
In addition to writing, Stuart has also taught post-graduate screenwriting at the University of Miami, and in 1997 was commissioned by the Miami Art Museum to create an artwork, Filmloop/Fragments, to accompany a sculpture installation by the Polish artist, Magdalena Abakanowicz.
In 2006, Stuart was sworn in as a US citizen, although he also retains his British citizenship. Stuart is married to Chinese-American artist, Charong Chow, and in 2007 informally changed his surname to Chow-Stuart, in keeping with that of their young son.
Stuart is currently adapting Toby Barlow's extraordinarily moving and violent Los Angeles-based epic poem, Sharp Teeth, for Film4. And writing the novel, Chinatown Nights, a noir thriller and love story set in London in 1919 for Doubleday.
